Imaginary Water Can Save You Gas

Erik Hayden Jul 26, 2010
Toyota Sweden has come up with a groundbreaking new way for you to save gas while driving your car: drive with an imaginary glass of water on your dashboard. Apparently their engineering masterminds are confident "that's all it takes to lower your fuel consumption by 10 percent."

Toyota's theory goes something like this: if you are consciously driving in order to avoid spilling your imaginary glass of water (an iPhone app makes a perfect substitute) then you are most likely driving in a safer, more efficient way (i.e. fewer sharp stops, less sudden veering etc). While it seems like a common-sense way to be eco-friendly it nonetheless raises the question: is this the best that the world's largest and arguably most innovative car manufacturer could come up with?
