American Apparel--with the repulsive antics of its CEO Dov Charney--has been one of the most powerful symbols of foul hipsterism of the past decade. And now that the company might have to seek bankruptcy protection, who isn't eager to dance on the flimsy overpriced v-neck t-shirt retailer's grave? Many of us feel just like Wire commenter Alex Silver, who writes:
What, you mean selling overpriced, mostly hideously ugly clothing specialized for a tiny population of East Coast urban hipsters while treating the teenage staff of your stores like your personal sex slaves isn't a sustainable business model?
And an answer from trythemiddle:
Maybe not sustainable, but boy what a ride.
