The average cost of health care for an American family insured through an employer is currently $19,393. This number is up 7.3 percent, or $1,319, from last year's figure. CNN Money, citing the health care consulting firm Millman Inc., reports that "of the $1,319 annual increase, workers' out-of-pocket costs this year rose 9.2 percent." Not only is this "more than the 6.6 increase the prior year," it also means that insured employees are taking over more of the burden that was once carried by their employers.
