CBS has officially named Scott Pelley as Katie Couric's replacement anchor on Evening News. After reports of Couric's departure emerged last month, Pelley was named one of the candidates in the running for the position, along with CBS's Russ Mitchell and Harry Smith. According to a release, the show's title will be renamed to Evening News With Scott Pelley. He'll keep on contributing stories for 60 Minutes even with his new position of Managing Editor/Anchor of the News. Even though the decision has been deemed a "safe" pick its worth noting, as CBS does, that "half of all the major awards won" by 60 Minutes since 2004 have been those stories reported on by Pelley. He'll start on June 6th.
