A James O'Keefe prank only goes so far: Vivian Schiller, former NPR executive, is officially returning to a top media position as NBC News Chief Digital Officer. Yesterday, there were reports that she was close to finalizing a deal with the network, and now here's the glowing press release as proof:

“Bringing Vivian on board enhances this network’s mission of growth and the evolution of its digital businesses and strategy. With Vivian's help, NBC News will be recognized as the premier broadcast news organization in America, as well as the most innovative, comprehensive and trusted news operation,” said [NBC News President] Steve Capus.

Schiller, if you recall, is unfortunately remembered for being the CEO at the helm of NPR during multiple controversies involving the dismissal of former commentator Juan Williams and the backlash to undercover videos unleashed by prankster James O'Keefe. But, it's time for new beginnings: her new job will be "strategic oversight" over all the network's web properties, including msnbc.com.
