Chelsea Clinton has been named to the board of IAC/InterActiveCorp., the Internet company run by Barry Diller, The Wall Street Journal's Shira Ovide reports. IAC filed paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission naming the former First Daughter to the board Monday. Clinton, 31, "may not have much experience with public companies," Ovide writes, "but she did work at Avenue Capital, the distressed-debt shop run by well-connected Democratic donor Marc Lasry."

"We can't think of many direct connections between Diller and the Clintons, though both families are well known in fund raising circles," Ovide writes. Here's a (maybe tenuous) connection -- Tina Brown founded The Daily Beast in 2008 with Diller. In January of that year, Doubleday announced Brown would be writing a biography of the Clintons. In 2009, Mediaite's Glynnis MacNicol theorized that Brown was trying to "write the Clintons back into relevance" with her columns about the couple for the Beast. "Using a column to formulate thoughts on a book you are writing is not a new thing," MacNicol wrote. "However, there appears to be something more interesting than just a writer fleshing out their thesis going on in these recent Clinton-themed pieces by Brown. She's not so much talking about the Clinton era so much as bringing it to renewed relevance in the here and now."

Brown's book was scheduled to be published in 2010. No sight of it yet, however. But she did put Hillary Clinton on her first issue of Newsweek, just as she put her on the first cover of Talk 11 years earlier.
