Less than two weeks after he was told that he could stay on as Adweek editor, fiery media figure Michael Wolff is departing the advertising trade magazine. The longtime media critic found himself heading Adweek after writing columns for New York and Vanity Fair, among other outlets, and launching news aggregator Newser. After becoming editor in 2010, he oversaw the consolidation of three magazines--Adweek, Brandweek, and Mediaweek--under the Adweek banner. Wolff spent much of his tenure fending off rumors that he was on his way out, which Wolff alluded to by posting on his Twitter, "Long goodbye done." His last column, from August, was on one of his favorite subject, Rupert Murdoch, on whom he wrote on a controversial biography in 2008. Executive editor Jim Cooper is taking over day-to-day duties.
