The Future of BuzzFeed Looks Like a Newsier Facebook News Feed
Looks like BuzzFeed has made another power move after hiring Ben Smith away from Politico last month: It's picked up RollingStone.com senior editor Doree Shahrir to oversee its cultural coverage. The site's really putting its new funding to work as it tries to break away from lists of cat photos and get into serious (or at least relevant) journalism. Shafrir, who previously worked at Gawker and the New York Observer, will get the title executive editor and will report to Smith, Brian Stelter reported in the New York Times' Media Decoder blog.
Shafrir told Stelter she's going to spend the next few months hiring writers and editors, so all you cultural reporting-types looking for a job should start tuning up your resumes. As Shafrir says, "BuzzFeed is super hot right now."
