Yahoo's hiring of  Oliver Knox as its  first White House correspondent points to the company's growing aspirations as a producer of original news content beyond the massive aggregation system it already has in place. 

Knox, who spent the last 10 years covering both the U.S. Congress and the White House for Agence France-Press, will report to politics editor Chris Suellentrop, who joined Yahoo from The New York Times Magazine last summer. Last fall, Yahoo hired a handful of veterans to beef up its news operation, its blog, the Cutline, reminds us on Wednesday: "Washington D.C. bureau chief David Chalian, managing editor Hillary Frey, head of strategy and development Guy Vidra , and executive producer (elections) Steve Chaggaris" all joined. And with Knox, they'll get their own seat in the White House briefing room.
