Salman Rushdie 'Mortified' by Romance Rumors; Anne Hathaway to Marry
Sacre blech! Reformed celebrity shamer Perez Hilton has tracked down some really grainy footage — someone filmed something off of a computer — that appears to be an early trailer for the Hugh Jackman/Russell Crowe/Anne Hathaway movie version of the big, bombastic musical Les Misérables. And in it, Anne Hathaway sings the iconic "I Dreamed a Dream." And it is... Not so good.
Hathaway has sung before, in Ella Enchanted and at the Oscars with Hugh Jackman, but a musical like Les Mis, with its towering(ly cheesy) score and roof-tearing notes is quite a different thing entirely. Forget that we don't exactly buy her as a dying 19th Century French prostitute to begin with. The voice we hear in this admittedly early and unpolished clip does not bode well for the rest of the movie.
Eh, but maybe that's mean. Maybe she'll be great! We had early doubts about Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises but we've since seen footage that looks way more promising than expected. So we apologize if we are ultimately wrong, Anne. But right now? This sounds like an only moderately successful Stagedoor Manor audition.
