Sally Singer Is Suddenly Leaving T

Hiring Sally Singer away from Vogue was a big coup for The New York Times' T Magazine in 2010, so it must be disappointing to have hear leaving so suddenly, as was announced on Tuesday. WWD's Amy Wicks got the scoop that Singer would be out by the end of the month, which is in just three days for those not keeping track.

New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson made the announcement to staffers and did not name a successor. Nor has Singer shared her destination. "I'm sorry to announce that Sally Singer will be leaving T magazine and The Times at the end of this month," Abramson wrote, according to WWD's Wicks. "Sally's contributions are clear to anyone who's read the magazine during her tenure. Gorgeous visuals, interesting stories and enterprising features — both in print and online — have been hallmarks of her stewardship. We wish her every success." When Singer joined T, The New York Observer's John Koblin wrote that Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger, Jr. "stunned the city" by hiring one of the "biggest talents in fashion publishing" for a job widely expected to be filled from within. Now that she's leaving, her replacement is going to have a hard time matching that kind of buzz.
