Can Wal-Mart Save the Twinkie?

Hope exists and prayer works. Hostess is going through the bankruptcy motions, and one of the rumored parties interested in saving our precious Twinkies is the big blue retail box giant Wal-Mart. Bloomberg News' Jeffrey McCracken & Beth Jinks report that Wal-Mart and Kroger are two of twelve potential Hostess buyers that have submitted offers to buy some or all of the company.

It's unclear whether they'll save the whole company, or just the bread and snacks part of it, or what, exactly. McCracken and Jinks say some of the offers are only for pieces of Hostess and not the whole thing. Either way, it will give Wal-Mart a lot of (much needed) good will if they save the beloved and precious treat. It won't save any of the jobs lost when Hostess shut down operations at its baker for good a month ago, but at least we won't have to travel to Egypt the next time we get the munchies.
