Oliver Stone Gives Up on Obama

Carl Franzen 227 Views Dec 3, 2009
Many Hollywood stars lent their beautiful faces, loud voices, and ample pocket-books to elect Barack Obama. Passionately liberal film director Oliver Stone was no exception, helping develop a pro-Obama ad, and publicly declaring his support in the 2008 presidential election. Yet it wasn't very long after Obama was elected that the man behind 'Wall Street,' 'Platoon,' and 'Natural Born Killers' rescinded his support and began pounding the president, saying his office amounted to "a sneak Bush administration with different words."

Now Stone is at it again. The Associated Press reports that Stone's lecture to American University students on Wednesday included a harsh denouncement of Obama's escalation of the war in Afghanistan:
Ramping up the war in Afghanistan, Stone said, could be the beginning of the end for the United States.
"This is a huge turning point," Stone told the class. "It's ironic a so-called liberal president would be the one to screw the lid on the coffin."
Stone, though, isn't the first well-known Hollywood humanitarian to be disenchanted with the president.
