Why Is Stephen Colbert on So Many Magazine Covers?

Stephen Colbert, host of the hugely popular Colbert Report, has most recently become the magazine industry's go-to cover boy with Sports Illustrated, Newsweek and GQ in his portfolio. Now, in a search for whether its editors should bow to the power of Colbert and make him their cover model, Vanity Fair wants to know, "what otherworldy power does Stephen Colbert wield over magazine editors?" Is it Colbert's special blend of surreal, deadpan irony? Or his penchant for lusty, cynical songs, and reducing the complexities of Afghanistan strategy to a board game?
