Morning Vid: Olbermann Adds 'Sexist' to Brown's Litany of Sins

Jake Simpson 12 Views Jan 20, 2010
At the beginning of Tuesday's show, Keith Olbermann said he was going to apologize to Scott Brown for calling him "an irresponsible, homophobic, reactionary, ex-nude model, teabagging supporter of violence against women and against politicians with whom he disagrees" (covered by the Wire here).  The rant generated an immediate backlash, with conservative bloggers--and Wire commenters--trashing Olbermann for going too far. Even fellow MSNBC host Joe Scarborough tweeted about it: "How reckless and how sad."

Turns out "apologize" meant throw gasoline on the fire. "I'm sorry -- I left out the word 'sexist'," Olbermann said. "And I left out the story of the day Brown, upset by online criticism from some student, went to that school and swore at the entire student body. I'm very sorry." Arguing that his detractors offered "no contrary evidence" to dispute his characterization of Brown, Olbermann repeated his epic sentence from a day earlier -- with a twist.
In Scott Brown we have an irresponsible, homophobic, reactionary, sexist, ex-nude model, teabagging supporter of violence against women and against politicians with whom he disagrees. And if he or you don't like that characterization, my answer to you is simple: disprove it, because he hasn't.
