Strange Bedfellows

Germans Play Brahms on Vuvuzelas

Benjamin F. Carlson 19 Views Jun 28, 2010
The vuvuzela requires no introduction. It’s the loud, cacophonous, meme-generating plastic pest of the 2010 World Cup that people love and love-to-hate in extremely unequal proportions. The vuvuzela is not known for making beautiful music, let alone Brahms. That’s what makes this video from three brass players of the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra so charming.

After a short, straight-faced introduction in German, the tuxedoed virtuosi blast a helplessly off-key version of a Brahms theme, then mangle a bit from Bolero.
