Senator Al Franken made an unusual prediction at last weekend's Netroots
Nation conference. The gathering of liberal political activists is
organized by the readers and writers of the Daily Kos blog. So
naturally, the crowd was pretty well-versed on tech-related issues such
as
Net Neutrality. Firing up the audience, he
predicted
that if Congress doesn't prevent corporations like NBC and Comcast from
merging, they could start influencing the accessibility of political
websites. In his mind, media conglomerates would likely favor
conservative sites like Fox News over liberal ones like the Daily Kos:
If
no one stops them how long do you think it will take before four or
five mega corporations effectively control the flow of information in
America not only on television but online...how long do you think it will
take before the Fox News website loads five times faster than Daily Kos?
