One classic 60's tune and one undeniable pop hit apparently make for three disgruntled artists. According to a New York Post report, The Beach Boys are considering a lawsuit against pop-rock starlet Katy Perry for cribbing the line "I wish they could all be California girls" in her recent track California Gurls.

The line in question, which is actually deadpanned by Snoop Dogg , is considered "one of the most famous lyrics in history" and the Boy's record company is looking to get some royalties for its usage. While it's not surprising that The Beach Boys are looking to defend their turf as the original laid-back California lifestyle purveyors, it's mildly surprising that Katy Perry is the one to be singled out to feel the legal backlash. (Shwayze should consider themselves lucky.)

But at least, as the Post reports, the Beach Boys have taken a liking to the singer's work, with Brian Wilson calling the melody "infectious."
