Glenn Beck Profits From Coming Apocalypse

Erik Hayden 1,783 Views Oct 19, 2010
This has been an incredible year for Glenn Beck. The weepy, charismatic Fox News presides over a blossoming media empire, hosts a conservative rival to The Huffington Post, and manages to find time to turn on his viewers to God...and gold. The host's continuing fascination with gold hoarding has inspired a number of explanations, including a recent one from Mother Jones reporter Stephanie Mencimer, who argues that he "hypes gold as a way to weather the coming end of the world."

Well, he's found yet another product to bolster his viewer's bunkers when the apocalypse arrives. Eric Lach at Talking Point Memo notices that Beck's website is now peddling "survival kits of freeze-dried food and other items to help people live from two weeks to 12 months." The survival kits, marketed as Food Insurance, undoubtedly make a good complement for gold shares purchased from the host's other partner, Goldline. "If you ever find yourself in a post-nuclear holocaust environment and come across people eating beef stroganoff, odds are they'll be Glenn Beck fans," Lach quips.
