Video: Viral Video Sparks Lawsuit

Deb Weinstein Jan 20, 2011
Waterlogged texter, Cathy Cruz Marerro, has gone from YouTube smash to tearful litigant. Last week the video of Marerro falling into a mall fountain while texting, caught by security cameras, went viral. The 49-year-old mall employee, who tears up while recounting the experience to George Stephanopoulos, is suing "all responsible parties," not for her fall, but because no mall employees or security guards offered help or immediate comfort. Comments Mediaite's Matt Schneider, seemingly only semi-seriously: "Hopefully any legal action does not have a chilling effect on people posting embarrassing videos on YouTube, otherwise what would we do on slow news days?"
