Music lovers can add yet another festival to their summer plans. The Governors Ball Music Festival was just announced today, to take place on June 18 on Governors Island off Manhattan. The preliminary lineup includes some of the summer music festival circuit's usual suspects, such as Girl Talk, Pretty Lights, Empire of the Sun and Passion Pit, with more performers expected to be announced later on.

Last year, Governors Island hosted the Hard Fest, a smaller, one day event featuring bands handpicked by the show's headliner, M.I.A. "This lineup, with more than one artist on the bill who can headline multiple nights at Terminal 5, is bigger though," the blogger Brooklyn Vegan points out. While Consequence of Sound writer Alex Young says that "New York City and music festivals have never really mixed--just ask All Points West, Vineland, or Bonnaroo NE," he predicts that Governors Island, with it's limited capacity and reliable transportation, might be the perfect location for New York's latest attempt at a music festival.

Below, the Governors Ball video announcement of the festival's lineup.
