According to the Los Angeles Times, Bob Dylan is the most frequently quoted musician in legal filings by more than a two-to-one margin. Interesting, writes commenter Esther Simpson, whose own legal career has been Dylan lyric-free:

What an interesting story, and bit of research. By memory only, I have cited in court briefs the Beach Boys (once), Woody Guthrie (twice), and the Rolling Stones multiple times (but only obliquely, as I was not getting any satisfaction).

On the other hand, one of the Woody Guthrie songs I quoted was covered by Bob Dylan--The Ballad of Pretty Boy Floyd (Some rob you with a sixgun, some with a fountain pen.")
