'Book of Mormon' Leads Tony Award Pack; Conan Gets a Shave

Welcome to the Smart Set. Every morning we bring you the gossip coverage, filtered. This morning, the Book of Mormon grabs 14 Tony award nominations, Leon Panetta chooses his Hollywood doppelganger and Will Ferrell shaves Conan O'Brien's beard.

  • The South Park creators have parlayed the adoration for their well-received (even, it seems, by Mormons) Broadway musical The Book of Mormon into 14 Tony award nominations, leading this year's pack of contenders. Close behind Trey Stone and Matt Parker's creation is musical The Scottsboro Boys which received 12 nominations. [LA Times]
  • Leon Panetta thinks that Al Pacino would be an excellent choice to play him when the inevitable Hollywood adaptation of the hunt for Bin Laden arrives, according to a tweet sent from Rep. Billy Long. [Politico Click]
  • Will Ferrell promised that he would be shaving Conan O'Brien's beard, and last night he did just that in a four minute segment on Conan while the host read a couple back issues of Playboy. "Just trust me Conan, I'm a professional," boasts Ferrell mid-shave. [Gawker]
  • Party Down reunion? Vulture sees the casting of Adam Scott and Casey Wilson in a Ferrell-produced indie-comedy about best friends and bridesmaids as being a "a tiny bit" like the cancelled series. One could hope. [Hollywood Reporter]
  • Yahoo! gets a new editor-in-chief. The web giant nabbed Jai Singh from AOL-Huffington Post to head up its Media Network content efforts. The Huffington Post statement: "This is about geography–Jai made clear his desire to move back to California, where his family is located." [All Things Digital]
