Prince William and Kate Middleton spent 48 hours in Los Angeles this weekend, a whirlwind tour that included plenty of hand-shaking, laughing, and looking. Here are the most evocative images from the southern California leg of their North American tour...

They arrived at LAX Friday, where California governor Jerry Brown greeted the pair. Wife Anne Gust brought along a lovely bouquet.

Later that afternoon, at Variety's laugh-a-minute Venture Capital and New Media Summit.

Brown resurfaced to introduce the royal couple at the British Consul General's house in Hancock Park Friday night.

Sharing a sweaty kiss Saturday after William's victory in a charity polo match Saturday.

Later that evening, conversing with non-Brit Jennifer Lopez at BAFTA's Brits to Watch event.

Putting together care packages for the children of veterans on Sunday, a terrific cause that also yielded the first known photo of the royals with a leather-wearing teddy bear.

The couple that crouched together stayed together Sunday during a visit to an inner-city ceramics class.

One last photo opportunity before the long, commercial flight home.
