At a press conference last week, an eager fan gave Madonna a bouquet of hydrangeas, which were met by a judgey face of epic proportions. After some heroic lip-reading Entertainment Weekly deciphered that Madonna whispering to the person seated next to her, "I absolutely loathe hydrangeas. He obviously doesn't know that." And so a meme was born, garnering over 2 million views on Youtube, tickling fans and haters alike. CNN said she "smiled thinly" while EW said the snub exhibited a "Liz Lemon-quality over-the-top eye roll." Fast forward to today's "official response" and faux-apology from the Queen of Pop, entitled: Madonna's Love Letter to Hydrangeas.
