Michael Lewis, the journalist who wrote Moneyball and The Blind Side, will write the script for the film adaptation of his 1989 book about Wall Street, Liar's Poker, the Hollywood Reporter's Andy Lewis reports. Liar's Poker, based on his brief career as a bond trader, is the first book Lewis wrote. Though he's seen two of other books turned into movies, this would also be his first script.

Warner Brothers optioned the book in the early 1990s, but it's been festering in development for years. Interest picked up after the financial crisis. In writing about the 2008 crisis for The New Republic, Simon Johnson explained that the behavior Lewis saw at Solomon Brothers in the 1980s became the norm: "The rules were swept aside—typically at the behest of people who were making monstrous amounts of money trading bonds—and the movement of smart types into finance became a flood."
