Jon Stewart on the Secret to Mitt's Middling Success

In all the drama of the 2012 Republican primary, The Daily Show host centered in on the mystery of Mitt Romney's ever-steady results in the polls: "How has he managed to neither gain nor lose support?" Jon Stewart's answer: flip-flopping. Stewart freshens the critique by noting Mitt's recent hedge in an Ohio union vote that sure got political insiders talking. Mitt, in order to appeal to both moderates and more conservatives, took both sides of a vote on deciding to curb union's power. In particular, Stewart singles out that when Romney walked back support, he was standing right outside the Republican call center in Ohio he just visited. Stewart quips about Romney's hedging encouragement: "What did you say to them during the visit? I want everyone to know I stand ... near you. So keep up the ... work."
