Why Can't Ron Paul Have a Media Boomlet?

Erik Hayden 3,305 Views Nov 18, 2011

It took the resurrection of Newt Gingrich for Jon Stewart to dredge up a familiar refrain: since pundits give every contender the momentary spotlight (before declaring them "dead"), why can't Ron Paul become the fleeting media darling? Just, you know, for a little while. The Daily Show host, who's harped on the subject many times--including when he memorably pointed out the disconnect from Ron Paul's strong second place Ames Iowa Poll (remember, when Michele Bachmann was in the limelight) and the little-to-no attention the libertarian received. This time, Stewart grafts the "someone other than Mitt Romney" surge that has boosted the candidacies of Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Michele Bachmann and, hey, even for a brief second, Jon Huntsman to the "everyone is ignoring Ron Paul" discontent. It may not be a new sentiment, but The Daily Show host makes another mostly effective case, even though things may not change anytime soon.
