You're probably out of luck if you asked Santa Claus for a new Sarah Palin television adventure this year. The Hollywood Reporter  just published an exclusive on Palin's bad luck pitching follow-up to her very successful TLC show last year. Marisa Guthrie got the scoop:

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Palin and Burnett are pitching another reality series, this one more focused on Palin’s husband Todd and his career as a championship snowmobile racer. But for now, TLC owner Discovery Communications has passed, say sources. And A&E Networks, which entered into a bidding war with Discovery for Sarah Palin's Alaska, also is not interested.

Okay so. Guthrie offers up two reasons why networks are so far balking: 1) at over $1 million per episode the Palins wants way too much money for Todd's snowmobile show and 2) people just don't seem to Sarah Palin so much any more.

We're tempted to float a third hypothesis that even cable TV networks think that your average American is totally disinterested in competitive snowmobile racing, but the more we think about it, the more it sort of makes sense. Have you heard of the show Ice Road Truckers. Even Virginia Heffernan thinks it's kind of amazing. Why not just give Todd Palin the keys to a big rig and see how he does racing around the Northwest Territories.
