Gary Carter, the 11-time All-Star catcher nicknamed "Kid," died Thursday, the Associated Press reports. He was 57. Carter's "bottom-of-the-10th single in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series helped the New York Mets mount a charge against the Boston Red Sox and eventually beat them," the Associated Press writes. He also played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and Montreal Expos. Carter was diagnosed with brain cancer last May, during his second season as coach at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
