It's time now for Box Office Report. This week: Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill have combined their sex appeal for an explosive foray at the nation's multiplexes.

1. 21 Jump Street (Sony): $35 million in 3,121 theaters

Never underestimate the power of a well-executed buddy cop comedy (as opposed to a terribly executed one) with a defiantly juvenile tagline ("The only thing getting blown tonight is their cover."). Overall, an excellent first live-action effort from directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who also directed the surprisingly funny CGI family film, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. 

2. Dr. Seuss' The Lorax (Universal): $22.8 million in 3,769 theaters [Week 3]

Danny DeVito's voice continues to be the most bankable thing in Hollywood.

3. John Carter (Buena Vista): $13.5 million in 3,749 theaters [Week 2]

Well, if it wasn't yet official (and it was), John Carter is a Martian turkey, tumbling 55 percent in its second week to reap the kind of grosses typically associated with Eddie Murphy openings. Andrew Stanton is so jealous of Phil Lord and Chris Miller right now, he's locked himself in his room and is watching his worn VHS copy of Hello, Dolly over and over again.

4. Project X (Open Road Films): $4 million in 2,922 theaters [Week 3]

"Found footage party comedy." Have any four Frankensteinian-genre-mashup words ever sounded so sweet?

5. A Thousand Words (Paramount): $3.75 million in 1,895 theaters [Week 2]

"Two weeks in the Top 5!" is now the official benchmark of success for an Eddie Murphy movie. Next stop for the actor: a permanent spot in the Tyler Perry Repertory Players.
