In a surprise appearance on Conan O'Brien's show last night, Will Ferrell — in character as Ron Burgundy — announced that San Diego's No. 1 anchorman will be returning for a sequel. Right around the time Conan was taping last night, Deadline Hollywood reported that Paramount Pictures had just greenlit a followup to the 2004 comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and that the entire creative team from the original, including co-writer and director Adam McKay, producer Judd Apatow, and cast members Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd, will all be returning. So everyone who didn't catch the first movie in the theater or latch on to its second-wave cult following on DVD can prepare yourself for another decade of Sex Panther and Whore Island references from ... basically everyone you know. Stay classy, Hollywood.
