Good Morning America has a new technique for beating The Today Show in the morning ratings wars, and it's very simple: Interview the president and get him to take a side on a divisive issue on which he's been hedging for years.

ABC announced its ratings victory on Tuesday, crowing that for the week of May 7, "GMA' outperformed NBC’s “Today” (5.120 million) by +60,000 Total Viewers," according to Nielson data. (The Atlantic Wire predicted as much last week,) The network didn't credit Obama with boosting the show's viewership, but really, do you think it was the report on Tim Tebow's thoughtful Mother's Day gift? Actually, that probably didn't hurt. ABC bragged that this was the third time in five weeks the show had topped Today, including last month's ratings victory -- the first in GMA's history.
