I'll Have Another just won the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby. The horse, running at 12-1 odds before the race, came from behind to overtake early favorite Bodemeister down the stretch. The Derby is, for us, a family tradition and one of the first official signs that summer is finally here. Today would also be a very good day to revisit Hunter S. Thompson's famous 1970 essay, "The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent and Depraved," that Grantland helpfully republished the other day. The essay, written for Scanlan's, is a classic, and reading it at this time of year is as much a tradition as the race itself.
