Today in sports: The Stanley Cup participants are both for sale, there's no money in professional lacrosse, and I'll Have Another is safe.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear: professional lacrosse players aren't making enough money to support themselves as professional lacrosse players. Oh dear! Thankfully, they still have careers as bankers and investment bakers to fall back on, but still: oh dear! [The Wall Street Journal]

Double oh dear: a "loose horse" (read: a horse capering about without jockey, saddle, or human supervision) nearly "took out" Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner I'll Have Another during a training session at Belmont Park earlier today. Thank the racing gods, both equines were unharmed. [AP]

Vanderbilt football head coach James Franklin shared a bit of what he looks for when he's hiring an assistant coach while chatting with a Florida radio show: "I've been saying it for a long time, I will not hire an assistant until I see his wife.  If she looks the part and she's a D1 recruit, then you got a chance to get hired. That's part of the deal." We see a call from HR in your future, coach. [CoachingSearch.com]

The Los Angeles Kings defeated the New Jersey devils in the first game of the Stanley Cup last night, finally resolving all those questions of the "Has the Stanley Cup started yet?" variety. Game, 2, ridiculously, is set for Saturday. [ESPN.com]

Speaking of the Devils and Kings: both participants in the Stanley Cup are said to be for sale. Both participants! But if you want to buy yourself a pro hockey team, this is very good news. [New York Post]
