Following Us Weekly's bombshell report (with photos!) that actress Kristen Stewart cheated on never-confirmed-but-totally-her-boyfriend Robert Pattinson with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, the actress has released a statement apologizing in, well, pretty brutal fashion. She said to People magazine:

I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry.

Woof. Again, Stewart and Pattinson, who play fated lovers in the blockbuster vampire romance franchise Twilight, have never actually said aloud that they are dating, but they've been inseparable for some time now and have been photographed kissing and otherwise canoodling. Ironic then that Kristen's first public admission of the relationship would come after she's been photographed kissing someone else. And that it would be someone 17 years her senior who has a wife and children. Not a pretty situation! Some are of course crying publicity stunt, but we think Sanders married-with-kids status makes it probably unlikely that there's a hoax in the works.

Of course this is a private matter that we have no business nosing our way into, but screw that, this feels pretty damn juicy in all its bluntness, doesn't it? There are no rumors here, no whispery speculation. It's all pretty starkly concrete. Stewart and Sanders were photographed getting hot 'n' heavy in a car, and Stewart has issued one of the more frank admissions in recent celebrity gossip memory. Now we just need some kind of big announcement from Taylor Lautner — could be anything! Ahem! — and we'll know pretty much everything about the Twilight kids' lives.

Update, 2:45 pm EST: Rupert Sanders has released his own statement to People:

I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family... My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.
