The 'Modern Family' Cold War Is Finally Over

Rejoice, America! Your can stop worrying. All the adults from Modern Family have finally reached a deal with ABC that will pay them way more money. The Hollywood Reporter's Matthew Beloni reports ABC and everyone who plays an adult on Modern Family reached an agreement to pay them a bit more than $150,000 per episode.

The dispute started earlier this week when Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Sofia Vergara and Ed O'Neill filed a motion in a Los Angeles court to void their current contract so they could ask for more money. They were making about $65,000 per episode under their old deal, but they wanted $200,000 per. So they didn't get as much as they wanted per episode, but a new part of their contract says they all get a part of the show's back-end profits, which will add a bunch to their ultimate take from the show. The cast also wanted their salary to increase to $650,000 per in the last year of the deal, but instead they're getting $350,000 per, which works out to about $7.7 million for the whole season plus bonuses and back-end profits.

There was this weird, sort of cold war with the cast and the producers. A table read got delayed because of the dispute, but then they all agreed to do it anyway and everything was a little awkward but they all behaved like adults and got through it. There's nothing here that redeems the story at all. A bunch of actors decided they should be paid more, and they realized they had the leverage to make it happen. Sofia Vergara was already the richest woman on television, so this will just put more distance between her and whoever was in second place. The kids still get paid pennies, but maybe this will make Manny lead a worker's revolution against ABC. Good luck, comrades.
