New York City Has Katie Holmes' Back

Fresh off the reports that Scientology operatives may be tailing Katie Holmes after she filed for divorce from Tom Cruise and moved to Manhattan, New York's finest have shown some support for the actress. Both of New York's tabloids reported this weekend that a white car sat outside Holmes' new apartment building and men snapped pictures of her, and TMZ cited anonymous sources who suggested that the Church of Scientology sent them to keep her in line. But that's not okay, according to New York City Councilman Peter Vallone, Jr

"We don't allow people to be harassed in New York City and the NYPD should give serious consideration to the arresting and disarming of these thugs," Vallone, who's also a public safety committee chairman, told Capital New York's Azi Paybarah. (Who says public safety committees don't need a little easy press?) The NYPD also responded to a call, Capital reports, and investigated a white car filled with "burly and menacing men" outside the apartment. (This story feels like Dan Brown and Meg Cabot got together and co-authored a book.) Still, it's nice, we suppose, that the city has greeted its new resident with such open, harassment-intolerant arms.
