TMZ breathlessly reported that Republican National Convention organizers paid Journey $500,000 to play at "a private fundraising party," on Thursday, but that doesn't appear to be true.
The band is scheduled to play a 90 minute set at an event near the Tampa Bay Times Forum on Thursday night, but a Romney campaign spokesperson told Buzzfeed the event isn't sponsored by the Romney camp, and they didn't pay the band $500,000 to perform.
In a joint interview he did with his wife Ann for PARADE Magazine, Mitt didn't list Journey as one of his favorite bands. He did say he was a fan of Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney and Toby Keith, Aerosmith, Alabama and The Killers. (One of these things is not like the other...) The couple are friends with The Eagles, and former lead guitarist Don Felder is slated to play the convention this week. There's no word on much Felder is getting paid.
