Warner Brothers announced Monday that Baz Luhrmann's 3D version of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby has been postponed from this December to summer 2013, bringing several more months of anticipating/fearing the very gaudy looking adaptation. Warner Bros.'s statement assures everyone that there's nothing wrong here, noting that, " it makes sense to ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible." (Larger than Christmas? Hmmm.) So maybe the studio thinks it'll perform better as summer blockbuster than awards season entrant. But, truth be told, the Fitzgerald novel has always felt to us like a summer read, the action stretches from spring to fall and it takes place along the Long Island Sound, so aesthetically, this seems right. Then again, December or July, we'll be watching it in a 65 degree theater so, the aesthetics probably don't matter. Watch the trailer here:
