Remember last week when there were rumors that Jimmy Fallon was in talks to host next year's Oscars telcast and Lorne Michaels was going to produce and there was a chance it would actually be funny and entertaining? Oh, how we miss the good ol' days. 

News broke last week that outgoing Academy president Tom Sherak tried to negotiate one last brilliant decision on his way out the door by bringing in Lorne Michaels to produce the Oscars and Jimmy Fallon to host. The only trouble was that the Oscars are on ABC, while Lorne and Jimmy have cut their TV teeth on rival network NBC. Fallon especially ruffled the feathers of ABC execs because he goes head-to-head with their late night man, Jimmy Kimmel.

The L.A. Times have since reported that talks with Fallon have officially died, something he confirmed during a recent Today Show appearance. The Times reported a few days ago that former Academy president Sid Ganis was asked to produce with Michaels. But now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, talks with Michaels have officially died and he's out as a possible show producer. 

It would have been nice to have someone with the comedic eye, and connections, that Lorne has behind the Oscar broadcast. The skits might have been funny for a change. Now it's up to current Academy president Hawk Koch to find a producer and host for February's show.
