"Dan Baer was mistakenly identified as an interior designer. He's a deputy assistant secretary for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor at the U.S. Department of State," reads possibly the most hilarious Vogue correction of all time. The mistake happened in the magazine's profile on Chelsea Clinton in its September issue. In the version of Jonathan Van Meter's article online, this is how Baer is now described: "Chelsea is holding court with her friends, among them interior designer Ryan Lawson and Dan Baer, a deputy assistant secretary for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor at the U.S. Department of State." We have no idea what Baer does on his personal time, but at his day job, he does not pick out wallpaper and end tables, instead focusing on like refugees in Bangladesh. Still, as embarrassing as the correction is, it isn't in same league as giving Asma al-Assad, the wife of Syria's opposition-crushing leader, a glowing fluffy profile.
