The Oscars will certainly be glitzy and over-the-top this year, but there's one truly nice addition to the ceremony that manages to tone down the Hollywood fakery for something genuine: Instead of hot women handing out the statuettes, student filmmakers will. "This tradition of the buxom babe that comes out and brings the trophy to the presenter to give to the winner seemed to be very antiquated and kind of sexist, too," producer Neil Meron told the Associated Press. The college-student contest—which asked young filmmakers to submit videos answering the question "How will you contribute to the future of movies?"—gave the Oscars an opportunity to bring up people "who actually care about film and are the future of film" on stage, Meron said.
The six students that will join Seth MacFarlane onstage hail from places as far away as Zimbabwe. One is a chemistry major while the other is a Marine Corps veteran. All of their social media accounts have proven not only sweet examples of their excitement, but a nice behind the scenes look at the show. Here are the kids you'll be seeing a lot of come Sunday night.
