PETA: Use a Robot Groundhog

PETA: Use a Robot Groundhog Carly & Art/Flickr under a CC license A week ahead of Groundhog Day, vigilant animal-rights group PETA is suggesting Punxsutawney Phil be replaced by a robot--surprising precisely no one.

Though PETA worries that the iconic rodent is "stressed" by crowds, few responders are focusing on this particular argument. "If there's one organization that loves animatronic technology more than Disney," observes the Los Angeles Times' Lindsay Barnett," it's definitely People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals." Responds the president of the Inner Circle of the Punxutawney Groundhog Club to the PETA attack, "[the groundhog is] being treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania."
