A Kosovar man shot two American airmen dead and wounded two others at the Frankfurt airport Wednesday. Police still aren't sure why the man opened fire on a bus carrying Air Force personnel, but they aren't ruling out terrorism. The suspected shooter is in the custody of the German police and the man's uncle says the suspect is German Muslim employed at the airport, the Associated Press and BBC report.

President Obama said he was "saddened and outraged" by the shooting. German police haven't released the suspect's name, but Kosovo's interior minister, Bajram Rexhepi, said his name was Arif Uka, a 21-year-old from Mitrovica, the Guardian's Helen Pidd reports.

The New York Times' Judy Dempsey and Elisabeth Bumiller spoke to a man whose office is near the airport; he said he talked to witnesses who said the shooter talked to the victims before yelling, "Allahu Akbar,"--or "God is great"-- and then began shooting.

American troops have been in Kosovo since 1999, and in Germany since the end of World War II.
