The lawyer for Hosni Mubarak says the former Egyptian president has stomach cancer, "citing a medical report to assess whether the former leader is fit enough to stand trial," Al Jazeera reports. Lawyer Farid el-Deeb is representing Mubarak on charges in the killing of protesters and abuse of power during the revolution in January and February that ousted the longtime leader. "He has a stomach cancer and the tumours are growing," El-Deeb told the news agency. Mubarak, who is scheduled for trial on Aug. 3, had surgery in March 2010 to remove his gall bladder and a growth on his small intestine. He is currently in a hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh, on the Red Sea, after he suffered heart problems during questioning on April 13.
