A body guard of Afghanistan president Hamid Karzai was among those arrested in connection with a plot to kill him, according to reports from the Agence France-Presse and Associated Press on Wednesday. "The Afghan intelligence agency has arrested a group of six people in connection with an assassination plot against the life of the president," the country's interior ministry spokesman Siddiq Siddiqui said to the AFP. The AP spoke with Intelligence service spokesman Latifullah Mashal who relayed to the news outlet a few more details about the plotters: "those arrested included one of Karzai's body guards, three college students and a university professor. He says the group was recruited by two Arab nationals based in Pakistan." Currently, Karzai is in India trying to "soothe" Pakistan, as The New York Times put it, while still agreeing to a deal that would allow India to train Afghan troops.
