Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Nigerian man accused of trying to blow up a Detroit-bound plane from Amsterdam in 2009, has plead guilty to all eight crimes he's charged with in federal court this morning, "including conspiracy to commit terrorism and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction," the Associated Press is reporting. Known as the "Underwear Bomber" (for where he kept the bomb) or the "Christmas Bomber" (for the day he tried to execute the attack), he surprised the courtroom with his guilty plea, according to the AP. However, CBS legal analyst Andrew Cohen says that given he mountain of evidence stacked against him--including a pre-attack video Abdulmutallab explain the plot--the decision makes sense:

"This isn't a terrible surprise because he had no legitimate legal defense," Cohen said. "All those witnesses on the plane saw what he did, and there was a confession as well. And the judge clearly wasn't going to let him put on a political defense."
