Update 10:23 a.m.: Buzzfeed is reporting that the State Department is confirming that there were bees on the tarmac, but that the panic has been overstated. "Nothing to this," said State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland. "No panic or fleeing at all."  Whew.

Original: Hillary Clinton spent six and half hours in the landlocked African nation of Malawi--and some of that time was apparently spent fleeing from a swarm of rampaging, sting-happy bees. "There was a slight panic as the bees winged across the airport. People could be seen running away to keep cover as the Secretary of State swiftly boarded her plane to avoid any stings," a witness told the Nyasa Times' Lucky Mkandawire. Because bees are animals and not humans, they probably didn't know that it was Clinton's first visit to Malawi ever and that she is, according to New York's Daily Intel, is the highest ranking U.S. official to visit the country since Dan Quayle visited in 1991. Nor did the bees know what kind of good Clinton was trying to do in Malawi. When she wasn't being attacked, Clinton was spending her time in talks with President Joyce Banda and drawing attention to girls' educational programs, as well as championing food security and Malawi's agricultural program, part of a $36 million pledge she and others have promised.
