An army helicopter was shot down over a Damascus neighborhood on Monday as Syrians continue to gather evidence of the latest massacre by government troops. Fighting continues to be intense within the Syrian capital, even as more remote towns are still being wiped out by soldiers still loyal to Bashar al-Assad. More than 300 civilians may have been massacred in shelling and house-to-house raids in the town of Daraya last week.

Surprisingly, state TV confirmed that a helicopter had indeed crashed, but did not say it was shot down. It would be unusual for the government to admit such a failure, but perhaps it was unavoidable given the large number of eyewitnesses. The crash was captured on video from several different angles, though it isn't clear what hit the copter or who exactly brought it down.
